Weimaraner

Despite the comparative rarity of the breed in the UK, the Weimaraner has been maintained as a pure breed for well over a century in Germany and its ancestry can be seen clearly in paintings dated as long ago as 1630. The dogs were originally bred in the independent state of Weimar for their qualities of intelligence, companionship and beauty, and for their all-round ability to hunt, point, track and retrieve in all sorts of cover whatever the terrain. It was only in 1937 that the first Weimaraners were exported to the USA. The Weimaraner was introduced into the UK in 1952.

They are capable of being trained to the highest obedience and are sometimes trained as police dogs. The Weimaraner is indeed a very versatile dog. The Weimaraner is normally affectionate and intelligent, requiring discipline, training and plenty of free-running exercise. Remember, the Weimaraner has been bred for working and is happiest and most content when it has a purpose in life. If you are not prepared to devote time and effort to your dog, the Weimaraner is NOT for you.
