RISC OS Computers are computers that use the RISC OS operating system and ARM based RISC processors. Originally a company called Acorn made them but in recent years several companies make RISC OS based computers. The Iyonix PC with RISC OS 5 is the top of the range. There are also Risc PCs available secondhand. RISC OS is usually stored in ROM or Flash ROM and this is one of the reasons why RISC OS computers are so quick to start up. ARM based RISC processors have the advantage of not using very much power and as a result they hardly generate any heat, which means they don't have to have their own fans or heatsinks to cool them down. Users find the RISC OS window environment far more intuitive, productive and easier to use compared to 'Windows' PCs or Apple Macs. |
